California brothers tragically killed in car during Washington City bike race – St George News

THE CITY OF WASHINGTON — Two brothers from California who were biking on Telegraph Street on Saturday afternoon were hit and killed by an automobile.
According to a news release from the City of Washington Police Department, officers responded to the Telegraph Street area near Coral Canyon Boulevard following reports of a vehicle accident involving two bicyclists.
Cyclists rode westbound on Telegraph using the cycle path. The vehicle, a Hyundai Genesis passenger car, was also traveling westbound on Telegraph.
The speed at which the vehicle was traveling at the time is undetermined. The posted speed limit in this area is 50 miles per hour.
Both cyclists were found unconscious and rescue measures were initiated by witnesses and then continued by first responders upon their arrival. Both patients were later transported to St. George’s Regional Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
The roadway in both directions was closed for approximately two hours while the crash reconstruction team conducted their investigation.
The cyclists were identified as two brothers from California who were participating in a local bicycle race. Their names will not be revealed at this time.
According to the press release, a Washington City resident driving the Hyundai Genesis was arrested. Arrest and charges will be determined after a medical evaluation.
